Feynman on Trees   3 comments

I wish I’d had an instructor with Richard Feynman’s passion. What an inspiring figure!

Lapland In Waders   2 comments

Here is a fine video of fishing for trout, pike, and Arctic Grayling in Lapland, Scandinavia. The sight of Caribou running about, the long summer days, the wild fish; all of it appeals to me. Wow, what an experience that would be!

Stephen Rose fishes Otter Creek!   5 comments

A picture says a thousand words. An animated .gif says, perhaps, ten-thousand words?

Stephen and I went up to the southern slope of the Baraboo Hills yesterday and fish one of our favorite spots, Otter Creek. The fish weren’t cooperative, but it was a glorious morning and we both enjoyed being back in the forest.

As you can see, Stephen’s casting hasn’t suffered at all. He did struggle to remember how to tie a blood knot, but I explained that he had only just learned that knot earlier this summer, and struggled with it then. The hike got him breathing a bit and he told me on the way back to the car that he was experiencing an endorphin rush. Cool!

Later in the afternoon a gaggle of friends gathered at Wingra Park for a “last day of summer” picnic. Courtney and Brian, the Balsleys, the Cookes, the Anderson-Browns, and Stephen Rose and his son Heron all got together for grilled sausages, chips, fruit, beers (and sparkling mineral water), and lots of fun.

Brian broke out the frisbees and guess who can throw the frisbee like a laserbeam?

Fraser River Sturgeon   Leave a comment

A bloke from England (better than a wazzock I guess) caught a 1,000-lb white Sturgeon on the Fraser River in Canada.

White sturgeon caught in the area usually weigh between 30 and 100 pounds, but the article said this catch might be the largest freshwater fish ever caught on a rod and reel in North America.

The fish, measuring at 12 feet 4 inches, is also believed to be over 100 years old, according to the article.

GrindTV.com said the world record for a white sturgeon is 468 pounds, but since Snell’s catch wasn’t weighed on a certified scale it won’t become an official world record.

Pretty frickin’ unbelievable!

Another BEC Video   Leave a comment

I’m continuing to play around with Adobe Premier and have produced another video of questionable interest.

At any rate, Stephen and I went out Sunday morning hoping to capitalize on a tip from TJ on a hex hatch. We didn’t see any hex spinners or hex remnants, but we did find a spot where there were an awful lot of rising trout. The problem was, only one of them rose up and slurped a fly with a hook in it.

I’m amazed how quickly it got hot Sunday morning. It seems like the sun peaked over the horizon and the temp shot up immediately. We need some rain and some cooler temps! Compared to winter, this weather sucks.

Hex Hassles – The Video   9 comments

Hello everyone!

Here’s a video I put together of my outing earlier this week. Please excuse the ADOBE banner across the frame. I’m using a trial version to see if I want to buy Premiere. So far I like it.

Amazing Video – All I Can   1 comment

One of my passions is alpine skiing. I’m a coach for the Blackhawk Alpine Race Team and my co-coach, we’ll call him “Brian”, introduced me to this video. I’m planning to purchase the full movie to watch with my boys this weekend. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!
