Get out there!   2 comments

My parents took me out into the wild with them and I’m grateful for it. The “wilderness” of the Driftless Region has a lot to discover, not the least of which is good fishing. I’ve seen turtles, deer, beaver, skunk, herons, otters, frogs, and an enormous number of plants and rock formations.

I’m blessed to have boys who are game when it comes to stepping outside. It pays to expose our kids to the wild lands around them. I’m better off for having done it as a kid, and I’m happy to expose my own children to it, and they seem to love it!

Merry Christmas   Leave a comment

Merry Christmas to all our readers. Site traffic has been up lately and I find myself amazed that anyone is interested in reading about trout fishing in the cold, frozen days of winter. Perhaps you’re like me, longing for the time when you can step back into that flowing water and feel it pushing against your shins, hoping to spot a fish darting past, looking for a hole to make a perfect presentation.

I got some fly tying materials from my family for Christmas and can’t wait to tie some more flies. With each fly I picture the fish I will fool with it. Incredible that something I craft with my hands could be used to create a connection between me and a beautiful wild creature.

Get out and enjoy the beauty of winter. It won’t last long.
