Hex Hassles – The Video   9 comments

Hello everyone!

Here’s a video I put together of my outing earlier this week. Please excuse the ADOBE banner across the frame. I’m using a trial version to see if I want to buy Premiere. So far I like it.

  1. I like it, I like it.

  2. I’ve had a lot of nights like that too. “Maybe next time,” at the end of your video sums it up well.

    • I heard a rumor that the hex hatch is done in the Midwest (from ChicagoTroutBum.com – David Heyman). Is that the general assessment of the broader community? I’d prefer not to go out again and sit in the dark waiting for something to happen only to find out it’s all done.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one who’s had a lonely night on the stream bank.

  3. I heard the Hex came off heavier in late May. Seems all the bugs are 3-4 weeks ahead this year…I don’t usually hear cicadas ’til well after the 4th but they’ve been out for at least a week now.

  4. Hi there,

Been checking out your blog every now and then as I search for recent creek info:) I had been fishing BEC pretty regularly through early May and caught many fish then. Just got back to town after a long trip, and went out last night to see if any hexes might show. I saw exactly 1 fly hatch, and had a tough time catching any trout (fishing primarily with RS2s and softhackles). Caught 2 small ones on a copperjohn. No fish rising. Might be the heat? Yet i also did not notice any bugs coming off the now tall grass. Ugh, that grass is a pain.

I did notice BWO type spinners. Small- size 18ish. Might try that this eveing back at my spot- up and down stream of the olsen road bridge. If you ever want to see some good spots, get back to me. I find that most people from outside the area rarely drive that far down BEC.

    Tight lines,
    TJ

  5. Just leaving BEC now… The hex hatch is still going on. Was just in a swarm of spinners at the pond near the barn in downtown black earth.
